Our Work

Over the past 20 years, we have provided total halal solution to food establishments, processing plants, and ingredients suppliers, as well as importers, exporters and abattoirs. Today, with representative offices globally, ARK works tirelessly as an extended Halal Quality Assurance Department as well as Networking and Promotional Division ion for halal companies, serving both the Muslim community and wider halal industry.

Our Mission

ARK was established by a team of experienced halal professionals from Singapore, Malaysia and the UK. Our mission is to provide holistic support to companies entering the trillion-dollar global halal market.

Our People

The ARK team is structured from the get-go with an International Shariah Panel of influential experts from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the UK. Our Shariah Panel is further strengthened by a dynamic technical committee of highly qualified professionals in the fields of Shariah food law, food technology, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.

INTERNATIONAL SYARIAH PANEL

Ustaz Daud Norakit

Patron of the Malaysian Student and Community of Leeds (MSCL), organises religious activities for MSCL and activities that strengthens ties between students and the residents of Leeds. A guest speaker for many events in the UK and Eire, he is a reference point within the student community in the UK, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Dato’ Wan Mohamad bin Dato’ Sheikh Abdul Aziz

He was the Former Director General of JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) and currently the Member of High Panel on Federal Institution of Islam.

Adding to that, Dato Wan is also a member of board of directors at the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM).

Moulana Ilyas Salim

A Muslim Chaplain and adviser for the Leeds Teaching Hospital and Shefﬁeld Children’s Hospital. He has created links with local ministers and imams, and conducted workshops and trainings in universities, prisons and other hospitals.

Ustaz Mohamad Bin Haji Rais

The Senior President of the Shariah court in Singapore. He holds a degree in Islamic Theology from Al Azhar University in Cairo, and is active in Islamic Counselling.

Technical Advisers

Professor Zhari Ismail

Head of ARK’s team of Technical Advisers

Heading ARK’s team of Technical Advisers is Honourary Professor Zhari Ismail, who was a Professor in Pharmacology at the University of Science Malaysia in Penang. He is currently a member of the National Fatwa Council for Malaysian Islamic Affairs, and was instrumental in the drafting of the MS2424: Malaysian Standards for Halal Pharmaceutical Guidelines.

Dr. Fazilah Arifﬁn

Food and Flavourings Specialist

Dr. Fazilah Arifﬁn is our Food and Flavourings Specialist who is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Science Malaysia. She is a respected scholar within the Malaysian Food Science community having written numerous papers in all areas relating to the discipline. Flavourings is her main specialty.

Ahmad Farid Mohd Azmi

Food Biotechnology Specialists

Ahmad Farid Mohd Azmi is one of our Food Biotechnology Specialists. He is a lecturer at the National Defence University of Malaysia, specialising in food biotechnology and nutrition, and is currently on leave to pursue his PhD. in Food Biotechnology at Leeds University.

Nur Liyana Sulaiman

Food Biotechnology Specialists

Our Food Biotechnology Specialists, Nur Liyana Sulaiman, is a qualiﬁed food scientist with qualiﬁcations in Islamic Food Law. She specialises in research on proteins, and is currently pursuing her PhD. in Food Science and Nutrition at Leeds University.

Dr. Anna Rosweim

Cosmetics Specialist

Dr. Anna Rosweim, our Cosmetics Specialist, heads the Halal Centre at YARSI University in Jakarta, Indonesia. She was a key mover at LPPOM-MUI where she was instrumental in setting the Halal standards for Cosmetics, which is her specialty.

Dr. Siti Hajar Omar

Medical Physician and Surgeon

A qualiﬁed medical physician and surgeon specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, Dr. Siti Hajar Omar is our Pharmaceutical Specialist who adds depth to ARK’s collective knowledge on pharmaceuticals.

Mohd. Rashid. Mohd. Yunus

ISO Principal Consultant

Mohd. Rashid. Mohd. Yunus is the ISO Principal Consultant. Rashid has trained more than 1000 personnel through public and in-house training. He has audited more than 1000 companies in this region and currently the Associated Lead Auditor for SOCOTEC and TUV-SUD-PSB for the following schemes – e.g ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, QMBS, BCM etc.
